Good morning all from Beijing – 6/1/11 8:30 am, 5/31/11 5:36pmPDT
Leif remains without any nervous system function. He is unable to control his temperature. The doctors have managed to get his Na down to 155, but his platelets are again down to 41,000 and his WBC remains elevated at 25,000 with 85% neutrophils. He has developed a rash which I assume is an allergy to one of his medicines. He is out of AF ( atrial fibrillation) for 4 hours now. This morning his helmet was removed and he has just a tiny bit of hair growing back, kind of like a 4 o'clock shadow on his head. His body is so young and strong it is fighting hard for life. The Chinese believe that he could awaken even in 2 or 3 years, very different from what our Western medicine says.
Sitting in the ICU with him, listening to his music and talking and singing to him, I move between desolation and wonderful memories. When we first were here his crown chakra was a river of white light, but day by day the light decreased and now I see only occasional flickers of white.
Yesterday a very good friend, Cecilia, and her husband, came to visit. I had not seen her for 4 years or so and Leif had lost contact about 2 years ago.
A friend who had been with Leif Thursday night came to visit. He said Leif left the bar with him about 1 pm and drove him home on his motorcycle and at that time was not drunk and drove very carefully. No one knows where Leif was between 1:30am and the time when the accident happened. Last night Moon and friends went to all his usual haunts including the McD's where he occasionally stopped for a bite on his way home. No one remembers seeing him that night after 1am. Moon is holding up well most of the time, and is focusing on praying for Leif's full recovery, finding out what actually happened that night, and working through bureaucratic red tape. Her friends from Fushun left yesterday and they were a major support for her. Pray for her continued health and strength.
Again, thanks for your prayers and support. I discovered last night that most of my emails to people did not go out and so I resent a few. If you did not get an email from me it was a technological failure- I am now using my reneestringhammd@yahoo.com account for most things although renee@thestringhams.com seemed to be working this morning.
